I hope I have addressed all situations and thought of all examples where these ramblings could be proven wrong, but if you can think of one, tell me so I can stop sounding like an idiot.

OPPOSITES

I thought of this the other day when I found it very easy to hate someone I loved. I was thinking of opposites. There didn't seem to be any opposites, but I hadn't thought of much yet, so I started with numbers. I asked some people what they thought the opposite of the number 1 was. Most people said it was -1. Some people said it was zero and I agreed with them. The absolute value of -1 is 1, so it shares something with 1, and therefor cannot be opposite. Zero has nothing incommon with 1. It is not the absolute value, you cannot divide 0 by 1, 1 is something, 0 is not. So they must be opposite.
Then I came back to love and hatred. I did not think they were opposite because they shared something; a strong emotion. Just as 1 and -1 shared absolute value. So I decided indifference was the opposite of love. But is was also the opposite of hate! And now they share opposites, just as 1 and -1 share the opposite of 0! So can the opposites be "opposite"?
Life and Death. I'm not sure what could be between that, it seems completely binary, it either is or isn't. So life and death are complete opposites, but I just thought of something. They are not because they both have life in common. You have to be living to be alive and you'd have to be previously alive to be dead. What could be between life and death to be the opposite of either one? I'm not sure, it's so binary.
Now, are opposites really things that share nothing with eachother, or is that just my definition?

EFFECTS ON PEOPLE

I often hear about how technology has changed people, and much of the time, people say it's been a change for the worse. One example might be the large amount of television people watch and how they don't get any excersize. Another may be how people talk through computers more than they talk face to face.

I disagree with the statement that technology has changed people, but I think this is how people have always been. Before television, there was some hidden desire to watch it and not have to think about the real world. Once it was invented, people could satisfy that desire. It's always been there, but has been recently drawn out. It is the same with internet communication. Perhaps people have always wanted to not have to deal with talking to someone face to face, perhaps it makes most people uncomfortable. Just because face to face talking is old-fashioned doesn't mean that's what people want to do. Just because people have communicated face to face in the past doesn't mean they always want to. It doesn't make them anti-social, but they've always been anti-social and are not forced to be social anymore. People hate other people most of the time. If you brought the internet to some ancient civilization, they would probably be addicted to it, after they learn how to use such a machine. They would probably be watching television non-stop also. It would be a break from doing hard work almost constantly in a low-tech world.

Basically, the human brain has not changed as technology has been developed, but rather it's true nature is coming out, this is how it reacts to technology, and this is how it always has reacted. Technology does not make people evil, but enables evil-doers to do their evil.

REPRESENTATION

Sometimes I will be thinking, and wonder why I am thinking in the english language, or if I am actually thinking in the english language, but my real thoughts can't really be represented. I find it odd that a brain picks an audible language to think with. I'd like to listen to the mind of someone who has never been exposed to language... what the hell are they thinking?

Does a brain even HAVE to pick a way to think, or can it just THINK without representation?

If a brain has to pick a way to think, then I don't know how you can prove that thoughts are really there. If a brain can think without picking a "language", then what would the thoughts look like or sound like? It seems impossible to find out. It's one of my great mysteries.

This also applies to computers. They don't actually think in "1001110100010", we just picked a way to represent on and off for them, their "brain". We gave it a language so we can understand it, it's not really what it's thinking.

I'm not really sure how you could represent on and off without using those words, which are also just translations of what the machine is doing into the english language. Perhaps the only way to see the bare "thought" of a computer is to watch it's electrons move through the various gates through an extremely powerful microscope (even this is nearly impossible to accomplish).

When people say "01001" is how computers really speak, I disagree. They don't really speak anything. We gave them that so we could understand them. I beleive the mind is the same way. It's amazing that we gave ourselves a way to understand ourselves.

Perhaps this understanding came from interaction with other beings, we give each other ways to communicate and it gradually becomes the way in which we communicate with ourselves. How amazing it is that we talk to ourselves constantly.

And there are some things that come naturally, where you don't have to talk to yourself in your mind, like when you catch a ball, or play a well practiced song on the piano. You don't exactly remember how you did it, but you did and maybe this is the kind of non-lingual thought that has no representation except the following actions.

I will have to think about this more...

THE RIGHT WAY

There seems to be no right way to do anything in this world. There is nothing to beleive in that is the right thing to beleive in, there is no "best" way to do something, there is no "right" government to support. They all have flaws, and lots of people can talk you into beleiving/following something else. There are always good arguements on both sides of any issue, and it becomes extremely frustrating. Here are some examples:

One thing that has been thrown around lately is the enviroment. Everyone says we are destroying it and that our destruction is eventually going to kill us all. This all may be true, but they don't have any realistic solutions for us so that we could actually live in harmony with the enviroment. Most of the solutions involve tons of hard work, huge changes in our everyday processes, or killing off a lot of people, or basically destroying the economy. But everyone wants a good economy, less work, and wants to live! There is no right way.

Government has to be one of the very biggest. I'll be the first to say that no government is perfect and that they all suck pretty bad, and that they all have a lifespan. People always say that this and that is wrong with our government, and that they have some solution, but they don't. Not everyone will agree with them and everyone WON'T be happy in their "utopia". The only way to govern perfectly is to govern primitive robots, who don't really care how good they have it. Also, choosing between parties, like democrats and republicans, is pointless. They both suck. Right now it's Bush and Kerry. Everyone hates Bush, and I agree that he does some stupid things. But why would Kerry be any better? He's not better just because he's not Bush! Everyone thinks this!! I've actually heard people say, "I don't know much about that Kerry guy, but anything is better than Bush!" This is completely irrational and stupid. Maybe he is better, but this kind of thinking is one of a dying government. I'd have to say that democracy is pretty nice, but it's eventually going to destroy itself! BECAUSE IT'S NOT PERFECT! Neither is a monarchy, or communism, or anarchy, or any stupid crap you can think of. Infact, this entire paragraph is POINTLESS! AHHHHH!!

Another example is gay marriages. Many people are for it because anyone should be able to marry anyone else, but for a lot of other people, it just isn't "right". Both are true. This is a country of freedom, but the whole point in getting married is to reproduce (usually). Isn't this frustrating!?

One very big idea is the whole "right and wrong-ism". You could say that what people consider "right", and what they consider "wrong" is just brainwashed into us and it's all just part of religion, that right and wrong is relevent, as if beings from far away would consider cheating on their wives to be the "right" thing to do. It all has to do with what your enviroment tells what is right.

But you could also argue that there is a irrelevent right and wrong, that applies to everyone. You could say that it is impossible to feel no remorse for killing a fellow being, that right and wrong is just pre-programmed into you. You could say that the entire concept of right and wrong came from the consequences of actions. Obviously, if you kill people and cheat on your wife, people are going to be angry with you and might kill you! So doing the "right" thing is to advance society and to keep out of trouble. I really don't know which is right, although I am leaning more towards the irrelevent right and wrong.

Phew! Aren't your tired of reading "right and wrong"??

DEATH

Everyone has all these theories about what happens when you die, what it's like to be dead, ghosts and all that crazy stuff. They always say it's such a mystery, and that no one REALLY knows what happens when you die. What they don't realize is that they have already been dead and have experienced it. Before you were born, you were dead. I was dead, you were dead. You were dead because you obivously weren't alive. Do you remember how you felt before you were born? Of course not! No one does! But the lack of feeling is exactly how it feels to be dead. It doesn't feel like anything. It's just nothing. Nothing at all. There is no heaven, there is no hell, there is just nothing. And I am one-hundred percent sure of it.

So all you people out there that are afraid of death, don't be. All you people that are afraid that you're wasting your life, don't be afraid, because you won't care. Live your life to the fullest all you want, but worrying about when your time is coming is just waste of time. You won't care about how you wasted your life once your dead.

And all you suicidal people out there that want "relief" by killing yourself, too bad, you won't feel any. And all you people that want to punish your classmates/coworkers by shooting them all dead, your not punishing them at all. It's not like they feel eternal pain, wish they were alive, or like they go to hell or something. Killing them is not solving any of your problems. Uhhhhggggg....

THE OPRAH/FREAK SHOW

I was in driver's ed class and our teacher showed us a video. It was this very beautiful girl that was riding in a car when a drunk driver crashed into her head on and killed her three friends. Then the car started on fire as she was trapped inside. The fire melted her face, body, and fingers off, leaving her looking like the guild navigator from "Dune". Google search and you will see. So anyway, this was on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and they did a little video about how it happened, and how she felt, and how great it is that she has such a great outlook on life. Wonderful isn't it? Isn't that motivating that misfortunate people can have a good outlook on life? It's just fortunate for the show producers. The Oprah Winfrey Show is just a freak house in disguise. They don't give a shit about her, and if they did, it would only be for the brief time that she was on the show. They know that an ugly face will get viewers, like gawkers at the scene of an accident, and therefor, companies will advertise. If they really did it because they cared about her, then they would say something about her three friends that died, but they didn't, all they cared about was the ugly one. Then they can cover it up with good intentions so that people won't hate them for exploiting. Yes, freak shows are still around my friend...

LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST?

Everyone always says, "Live you life like you're going to die tommorow", "appreciate everyday on earth." Stuff like that basically saying "live your life to the fullest."
Well I've been trying this and it's very depressing. Everytime you try to do somethign that you've always wanted to do, basically like you're going to die the next day, something always gets in your way. If you want to meet someone, they always are too far away or they're busy, if you want to buy something, the store is closed, if you want to ring someone, they aren't home... everything takes time, and that time it takes to do anything is a necessary waste. So living life to the fullest is a load of crap that only works in movies.

HINDUISM AND "2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY

We're studying world religions in World History, I don't really know why we are spending so much time on it, but I picked Hinduism for the religion I am doing my project on. It's quite interesting. It has this weird, surreal, quality. The pictures of the Hindu Gods give me this weird feeling, it reminds me of a long, droning sound, and I can always imagine the gods flying around in space. Like if you were exploring space, and you suddenly come across this gigantic figure with thousands of arms and heads who just sits there and floats through space, making a humming sound and wiggling his arms all around, turning knobs and pressing buttons. And if he wants to, he can fly really fast through space and make this swishing sound, like "SHEEWWWWWwwww..." because he's going to fast. They also kinda remind me of "2001: A Space Odyssey". There are parts in the movie when you hear this choir singing this very terrifying song, I think it's called a "requiem". Basically the whole choir droning in random pitches and making their voices with vibrato. Anyway, that would go perfect with these Hindu gods, I could just imagine one sitting there, "singing" the same song with it's many heads. Watch the movie and listen to the music, it's the creepiest and most bizarre emotion to listen to it...
